Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Jipu Village, Duoma District, Ritu County, Tibet Autonomous Region. It was named by Liang Dingyi et al. in 1991.

Lithology and Thickness

The section consists of algae reefs, coral reef limestones and dolomitic limestones, with dolomitic limestones with black and white bands in the upper part. The thickness is greater than 1000 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The bottom boundary is unknown, or it is in contact with the fault of the underlying Qudi Fm (Oudi Gr; of Early Triassic). Regionally, the next older unit is the Rigainpunco Gr of Norian.

Upper contact

The top boundary is marked by the disappearance of the dolomitic limestone in the black and white bands. Next younger regional unit is the lower and middle Jurassic Sumxico Gr.

Regional extent

This formation is distributed in Oula, Jipu Village and Jipu Ri'a, Doma District, Ritu County, Tibet.

Fossils

Bivalves: Triadomegalodon ladakhensis, Krumbekia cf. tambangensis, Diderocardium sp., Bristle: Blastochaetetes sp.

The age is the Late Triassic Rhaetian, and whether it extends to the Early Jurassic remains to be confirmed.
